TENDERNESS
Hiding in Plain Sight
After waking from a nap in Tanzania's Ndutu region, these young lion cubs headed off to explore. Keeping track of them through the tangle of vegetation and branches was nearly impossible—one moment I'd see them, the next they'd disappear.
Then they paused and peeked out together, giving me just enough time to capture the moment.
Apparently, they were already mastering the art of hiding in plain sight.
A ROCK STAR AT REST - With his tousled mane and a belly full from the night’s feast, this Serengeti rock star paused for a slow face wash before drifting back to sleep. A quiet glimpse of the softer side of a magnificent Lion.
BEAUTIFULLY WORN - Its tattered wings tell of miles traveled and challenges endured, yet it continues from flower to flower—fragile in appearance, remarkably resilient.
THE PROTECTIVE WALL - Adult Elephants gather shoulder to shoulder while the youngest members of the herd remain safely tucked among them—a living wall of protection.
LITTLE STEPS, BIG SHADOW - With a tiny trunk curled and sturdy legs finding their way, this little elephant stayed close beneath an adult’s towering presence. So much smallness, surrounded by so much strength.
AN UNEXPECTED GIFT - These two Northern Shrikes were perched together in the warm light. New birds, new moments, and a little more learning—so much of what I love about being out there with my camera.
SIDE BY SIDE - Two Eastern Bluebirds shared a perch, their soft blues and warm russets glowing against the winter backdrop. A simple moment of closeness, full of quiet warmth.
SERENGETI REFLECTIONS - A fellow photographer’s keen eye brought us into position as three zebras lowered their heads to drink in harmony. A small reminder that sometimes the best photographs come from teamwork, patience, and a little Serengeti magic.
STRIPES IN STEP - Side by side in the shallows, these zebras gave me a quiet moment to admire their remarkable stripes. Each so individual, yet beautifully in step.
